Only one patch planned for upcoming Microsoft Patchday
On the upcoming Microsoft Patchday, next Tuesday, January 13th, Microsoft is planning to release only one update. The update will contain a fix for a critical vulnerability in Windows and will be for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.
Precise details of the nature of the vulnerability are not disclosed in the announcement, and it is not clear if this is a problem which allows remote execution of code. It does say that on Vista and Server 2008 the problem is only classed as moderate, as opposed to critical on the other Windows operating systems. The update will also include updated versions of the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and the Vista spam email filter.
