In addition to a number of bug fixes, version 0.59 of the popular Open Source PuTTY SSH client includes several improvements. For instance, the client now also supports serial interface ports. In addition, the Windows version of PuTTY supports the same functions for local proxies as the Unix version (local proxy command) and can execute 2 GB file transfers. Furthermore, speed has been improved and numerous cryptography functions reworked. Finally, the help function was expanded so that the online help can be used on Vista. PuTTY reportedly now works flawlessly with IPv6 on Vista. Developer Simon Tatham says that the seed file PUTTY.RND is now stored in "more suitable" areas under Windows.
