German security company G Data has announced that Natalya Kaspersky, who is currently the CEO of InfoWatch, has acquired more than 16.8 per cent of shares in G Data Software AG. With the acquisition of the shares, a large portion of which were sold by a Berlin-based venture capital firm, Kaspersky will also be elected to G Data's supervisory board at the company's annual shareholder meeting on Tuesday, 23 October.

Natalya Kaspersky co-founded Kaspersky Lab with former husband Eugene Kaspersky in 1997 and at times led the anti-virus company before taking over leadership of the corporate security provider InfoWatch in 2003. According to G Data, the company's cooperation with Natalya Kaspersky dates back to 1996 when G Data agreed to a technology partnership with Kaspersky Lab under her leadership.

G Data is based in Bochum, Germany and is one of the oldest security software companies in the world, having been founded in 1985. It produces anti-malware software and solutions for both consumers and enterprise customers.
