Mozilla's security chief leaves

Window Snyder, Mozilla's security chief, reports in the Mozilla Security blog that she will be leaving the Mozilla Corporation at the end of the year. She joined Mozilla in September 2006 to represent the Mozilla Foundation’s commercial arm to the outside world in security matters, publishing information, security notices and announcements in the security blog. Future Mozilla security blog posts will be supplied by Johnathan Nightingale, Lucas Adamski, Brandon Sterne and Mike Shaver, until a successor has been appointed.

Snyder herself has said nothing about her precise reasons for leaving, or her future intentions, but it is rumoured that she will be involved in setting up a company unrelated to security. Snyder's previous work as a security strategist for Microsoft included threat modelling, and it was under her aegis that Mozilla introduced a security metrics model to "deconstruct where the security holes were" in the Firefox web browser.
