Microsoft's February Patch Tuesday will close critical holes

Microsoft has announced that it plans to release nine bulletins as part of this month's Patch Tuesday on 14 February. The bulletins, four of which are rated as critical, will address a total of 21 vulnerabilities in products including Windows, Office and Internet Explorer, as well as in the .NET Framework and Silverlight.

According to the company, the critical bulletins will close holes in Windows, Internet Explorer, .NET and Silverlight that could be exploited by an attacker to remotely inject code into a victim's system. The remaining five bulletins are rated as "important" and correct remote code execution and privilege escalation issues in Office, SharePoint Server and Windows. As usual, an updated version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) will be released at the same time.
