Microsoft releases security updates for Office 2004 and 2008 for Mac
Microsoft has issued updates for its Office 2004 and 2008 suites for Mac that patch several security vulnerabilities. According to Microsoft, the updates address a number of security issues, many of them rated Important. Three of the vulnerabilities are related to Excel and could allow attackers to inject arbitrary malicious code, for instance when opening specially crafted files.
Microsoft has also updated its Open XML File Format Converter for Mac. Version 1.1.5 addresses the same Excel issues covered by the other office updates and is available to download from the Microsoft Download Center.
The 11.5.9 update for Office 2004 for Mac and 12.2.5 update for Office 2008 for Mac are available to download directly from Microsoft. Alternatively, users can update Office via the built-in updater by opening an Office application, such as Word, and selecting 'Check for Updates' in the Help menu. All users are advised to update as soon as possible.
