Microsoft releases Autoruns 10
Microsoft has released version 10 of its Autoruns freeware program for setting which applications are automatically run when Windows is started. The latest release of the Autoruns utility adds the ability to scan offline Windows installations and adds .exe and .cmd extension handlers. Version 10 now defaults to hiding Windows entries and includes a number of bug fixes for the previous release.
Autoruns 10 is available to download (direct download) for 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 or later. Autoruns is also available as part of the Sysinternals Suite of troubleshooting utilities.
Microsoft acquired Sysinternals in July of 2006. Sysinternals, which was originally founded by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell, is now part of Microsoft's TechNet web site that offers resources, tools and guides for developers and IT professionals.
