Microsoft previews June's security updates

Microsoft Security icon Microsoft has released advance information on this month's "Patch Tuesday" security updates. Of the seven bulletins it plans to release on the day, three address critical vulnerabilities which enable remote code execution in Windows, Internet Explorer and the Microsoft .NET Framework. Of the other four bulletins that will take on important issues, one addresses a remote code execution vulnerability while the other problems are privilege escalations.

Overall, the bulletins will affect users of Windows XP SP3, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2003, Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2, Internet Explorer, Visual Basic for Applications, Dynamics AX and .NET Framework. The fixes to the Windows update system which Microsoft announced in the wake of the Flame malware discovery were released out-of-band last Sunday (3 June) and will therefore not be part of the "Patch Tuesday" packages. Microsoft advises users to install the update system updates immediately.
