The Excel update that Microsoft published on the last patch day occasionally caused tables to be miscalculated. Microsoft has now provided an updated patch that is claimed to eliminate this error.

In the Security Response Center (MSRC) blog, the developers say the problem only affects Excel 2003 with Service Packs 2 and 3 if real-time data sources are used in user-written Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) functions. Users of other versions of Excel are said not to be affected and do not need to apply the updated patch.

Users of the affected Excel versions are to be offered the revised patch via automatic update. If this has not yet occurred, visiting the Windows Update page with Internet Explorer will also supposedly retrieve the update. Alternatively, the update to Excel 2003 with Service Pack 2 can be downloaded directly from Microsoft.
