Microsoft announces Patch Tuesday

Two for Windows, three for Office, and one each for Exchange and CAPICOM/BizTalk: Microsoft has announced the content of its next regular Patch Tuesday on May 8.

The long version of the announcement is not much more revealing. As usual, Microsoft simply announces the basics. All of the categories contain at least one critical update, and computers will have to be rebooted in all cases.

According to a blog entry by Microsoft's Security Response Team, a patch is also scheduled to be released on Tuesday for the security problem currently experienced in Microsoft's DNS server. At present, it is not clear whether the problems that are already known to plague Office will be patched or if new ones have been discovered.

As every month, the software vendor is updating its Malicious Software Removal Tool and will also be distributing high-priority updates not related to security via Microsoft Update/Windows Update or the WUS/SUS server (6/1). As always, all of this information is subject to change, and Microsoft may make changes without any further notice by next Tuesday, when the patches will finally be made available.
