Microsoft and German security specialist Utimaco have agreed a strategic partnership in the field of data encryption. The deal means that Utimaco's Safe Guard Enterprise 5.0 encryption software will also support BitLocker drive encryption in Windows Vista Enterprise and Ultimate. The software is to be presented to the public at CeBIT 2007 in March.

Utimaco's Safe Guard Enterprise is aimed primarily at small and medium-sized businesses. The system consists of modules for the encryption of saved data, data transfer and data being processed on various operating system platforms. Using a management module, businesses can monitor and coordinate security guidelines and key management from a centralised location even in heterogeneous networks.
