Microsoft Logo After its recent record patch day, Microsoft will take it easy next Tuesday: Three updates are to close eleven holes in Office and in the Forefront Unified Access Gateway VPN solution. Microsoft has rated at least one of the holes in Office critical.

The recently disclosed security hole in Internet Explorer will remain open. Microsoft had already announced that although the problem is being taken seriously, as yet it doesn't fulfil the criteria to warrant an emergency patch – and the short period of time left until the official patch day would definitely mean releasing an emergency patch.

However, the Mozilla Foundation recently demonstrated that reliable patches can be developed within a very short time. The Firefox developers produced a patch for a zero-day hole within two days.
