US security software provider McAfee is paying 350 million US dollars to acquire SafeBoot, a supplier of encryption software and access control for mobile devices. SafeBoot claims to have 4200 business clients. These clients use the vendor's "Data Protection Suite", for example, which can encrypt not only individual files and folders but also the content of entire hard disks.

McAfee regards its new acquisition as giving it the leadership of the data-security market, adding that, together with its ePolicyOrchestrator and existing software for protection against data loss, it can now offer an all-in-one package for data security, as well as marketing a new suite for mobile devices with the aid of SafeBoot.
