US based Lulzsec hacker Cody Andrew Kretsinger, who is also known by his online handle "recursion", was sentenced to a day and a year in prison on Thursday in a district court in Los Angeles. Kretsinger was also sentenced to a year of home detention, 1000 hours of community service and will have to pay $605,663 in restitution for the attack on Sony Pictures in May 2011. Kretsinger was arrested in September of the same year and pleaded guilty in April 2012.

In the attack in 2011, several members of the LulzSec group had hacked the servers of Sony's movie production and distribution group and had managed to breach them through an SQL injection vulnerability, according to the group itself. The group managed to get away with the personal details of tens of thousands of registered users which were leaked onto the internet by LulzSec. Sony has said it has suffered $600,000 in damages from the incident, leading to the restitution payments that are part of Kretsinger's conviction.

Kretsinger's fellow LulzSec member Raynaldo Rivera, also known as "royal", "neuron" and "wildicv", is also currently being prosecuted at the same court and a verdict is expected in May. Four other members of the hacker group are currently on trial in the UK; three members of the group have pleaded guilty recently. Sentencing in the UK case is scheduled for 14 May. Hector Xavier Monsegur, who is also known as "sabu", a co-founder of the LulzSec group, was originally due to be sentences in August of last year in the US but had his sentencing deferred, yet again, by FBI request until August 2013 in exchange for help in tracking down the other members of the group.
