This is a rare bird indeed – security problems with IBM's OS/400. In an error report, the vendor describes a buffer overflow while running diagnostics via the modem port. This results in a memory dump and a halt in the initial program load (IPL). For OS/400 specialists and administrators this is important news, but for users accustomed to DOS, Windows or Linux, the title of the report alone may present a bit of a challenge.

According to IBM, versions V5R4M0, V5R4M5 und V6R1M0 are affected. A fix is available on request.
