The Guardian newspaper's jobs website has reportedly been hacked and the private information contained in approximately 500,000 CVs may have been compromised, in what the paper is calling a "deliberate and sophisticated crime". The newspaper was advised of the breach on the 23rd of October and the system has now reportedly been secured to prevent further access by attackers.

The Guardian has since contacted the central crime unit at New Scotland Yard which is now investigating the incident. Details of the breach, however, are being withheld until the investigation is completed. According to the paper's security update page, each of the users that may be at risk have been contacted by email and advised of the breach. The page also includes a list of sites with information on identity fraud for affected users. The US Guardian jobs site is reportedly unaffected.
