Google logo Google Enterprise Director of Security Eran Feigenbaum has announced that the Google Apps for Business web-based productivity suite has received ISO/IEC 27001 certification. This means that the company's online business suite has now been certified to comply with the IT security family of standards which governs "explicit managed control" of information security.

Feigenbaum says that the new certification should "assure our customers that Google is committed to ongoing development and maintenance of a robust Information Security Management System (ISMS) that an independent, third-party auditor will regularly audit and certify". Compliance with the security standards was certified by Ernst & Young CertifyPoint, an ISO certification body.

The company's cloud services have already completed their annual third-party SSAE 16 and ISAE 3402 audits, while Google Apps for Government was FISMA certified in July 2010, allowing it to be used by US government authorities.
