Firefox 3.0.3 on the way to fix bug in password manager
A bug in Firefox 3.0.2 has made Mozilla Corporation fast track the release of Firefox 3.0.3. A bug in the password manager means that if a passwords for a site with an IDN domain name – one with international characters in it – are saved by the password manager, then the passwords can't be retrieved.
According to Mike Beltzner in a posting to mozilla.dev.planning, this bug does not cause data loss, but does make the password manager unusable for many international users. The issue is related to incorrect decoding of passwords, rather than storing of them.
Firefox 3.0.3 has been fast tracked into QA and testing and is expected to be generally available next week. Ubuntu users will find Firefox 3.0.3 has already been placed in the Ubuntu updates and is downloadable now.
