As recorded in the minutes of the most recent meeting of the Fedora board, the Fedora Project is to integrate hacking tool sqlninja into its Linux distribution. The minutes record that Tom 'spot' Callaway, member of the Fedora board and Fedora Engineering Manager, met with Red Hat's legal team who said they considered there was no risk involved in including sqlninja. The Fedora board voted unanimously to lift the block on the application.

The distribution's baord had decided against including the program last autumn; a stance which attracted some criticism. Sqlninja attempts to penetrate and set up a backdoor on Microsoft SQL server-based systems by using SQL injection. Where some see an iniquitous hacking tool for compromising others' computers, others see a useful tool for testing the security of their own servers.

The Fedora Project is currently working on completing the first alpha version of Fedora 15, which is scheduled for release in May. The first release candidate for the alpha, due out 1 March, has recently been released. Those involved in the project are due to discuss whether this date will be stuck to on Wednesday. This week is also Graphics Test Week, a regular feature of releases during which the developers put out calls for users to test the open source graphics drivers for AMD, Intel and Nvidia graphics hardware, with one day devoted to each vendor.
