As Wired online magazine reports, quoting recently released FBI information, the US games developer Valve, in co-operation with the FBI, tried to use a job offer to lure the German Axel "Ago" Gembe to the US in order to apprehend him there. In the end, said the magazine, Gembe didn't travel to the US and couldn't be arrested.

In September 2003, the source code of the Half Life 2 game was published after someone broke into Valve's corporate network and stole the code. At the time, Gembe was a suspect. The German is currently being prosecuted for a different offence, where he has been accused of, in 2003, using DDoS attacks to cripple two US web shops.
