The Courion Corporation has released Compliance Manager for File Shares. While stringent security and access management processes and policies are integral to all enterprise level structured data storage, such as databases, the same is not necessarily true of a company's unstructured data. According to an IDC report much of the data in the digital universe is unstructured and this sector is growing at a rapid rate, which presents a security problem for IT managers. Courion Compliance Manager for File Shares allows enterprises to automate and apply the same level of security and access policies to unstructured data such as emails, office documents, audio and video files CAD and PDFs, as they do to their database files.

Courion says that Compliance Manager for File Shares allows managers to:

  • Prioritise focus areas in hours or days (instead of weeks or months) by using RiskAppraiser technology to identify the locations of file shares that present the highest degree of risk.
  • Identify the business owners of data most at risk and ensure access is controlled without impeding business functions.
  • Determine which other users have access to the data and to certify appropriate user access, remedy inappropriate user access and ensure access aligns with corporate security policies and industry standards.

Chris Sullivan, vice president of customer solutions for Courion says that, “Traditional approaches for controlling access to file shares have been too labour intensive to implement. Compliance Manager for File Shares extends the capabilities of our Access Assurance Suite to key unstructured environments. With the vast amount of company data residing in file shares, this broad capability is a complete data security and compliance strategy.”

General information about Courion products is also available from the company blog.
