Chrome 11 update patches high risk vulnerabilities, updates Flash
Google has published version 11.0.696.68 of its Chrome web browser, a maintenance and security update for the Windows, Mac OS X and Linux versions, as well as Chrome Frame for Internet Explorer. According to Google, the update addresses two vulnerabilities, both of which are rated as high risk.
The new Chrome version corrects integer overflows in VSG filters and bad casts in Chromium WebKit glue. Both of the the issues were discovered by the Google Chrome Security Team. Further details of the vulnerabilities are being withheld until "a majority of users are up-to-date with the fix". The latest stable channel update also includes an updated release of Adobe's Flash Player plug-in, version 10.3 (10.3.181.14), which also fixes several security problems and adds the new ClearSiteData API so that users can manage and remove Flash cookies (Local Shared Objects).
While an official announcement would normally be available on the official Google Chrome Releases blog, the post for version 11.0.696.68 by Google Chrome Product Manager Karen Grunberg has been pulled. The H has contacted Google about the removal of the release announcement, but has yet to receive a reply.
Update: Speaking to The H, a Google representative has confirmed that the official release announcement is unavailable due to problems with the Blogger hosting service which caused the developers to revert back to a previous version which did not include the announcement. The representative noted that there are no known issues with the update, adding that it is still being rolled out to users.
Update 2: The announcement post is now live again.
Chrome 11.0.696.68 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Users who currently have Chrome installed can use the built-in update function by clicking Tools, selecting About Google Chrome and clicking the Update button.
