Smartcard manufacturer Giesecke & Devrient plans to demonstrate at CeBIT in Hanover how digital identification cards could be used to make access to web sites and on-line transactions more secure. This functionality would provide added value to the concept of a "citizen ID card" that has been proposed in Germany and is already practised in Austria; for example, the holder's age could be checked before access to certain services. In addition, a service for the invoicing of mobile television programs based on SIM cards will also be presented at G&D's stand (hall 7, stand D46).
