In a new knowledge base post on its site, German security company Avira is now warning customers that its products are currently incompatible with Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 with existing Avira products installed will result in a blue error screen.

Apparently, the problem will only be fixed by the company in the first quarter of 2013. Avira says that "significant changes to the operating system platform" of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 are the reason for the incompatibility. On systems that have already been upgraded to the latest version of Windows, Avira software can only be uninstalled manually and, to do so, systems may need to be booted in safe mode.

Avira has updated its knowledge base help page with information on how to uninstall the software. Another help page provides information for customers who wish to update or newly install Avira under Windows 8; this page only contains a note about the incompatibility and the pending fix.
