Zoom Version 10 features an updated interface.
German anti-virus specialist Avira has made version 10 of its anti-virus software available to download today. The installation packages for AntiVir Professional and Premium and for Security Suite are already available from the download servers. The free version of AntiVir Personal should be available from 2pm GMT.

The most interesting new feature looks to be its ProActiv behaviour-based detection module, which is not included in the free version, and the improved generic repair function, which should be better able to repair malware-infected files. Security Suite now has a parental control function which allows parents to limit the amount of time children spend online. The GUI has also been simplified.

In initial tests using AV-Test, AntiVir Personal 10 detected an excellent 98.6% of malware and achieved a "high level" of rootkit detection. The test laboratory was also able to confirm improvements to the clean-up utility, but, running the release candidate, crashes occurred during some clean-up processes. Andreas Max from AV-Test noted that "it still needs a little work." First impressions are that the update has not had an adverse effect on speed.

AntiVir users will, according to Avira, receive version 10 via the normal auto-update mechanism's 'emergency update' service tomorrow (Wednesday). Personal version users will have to install the update manually by downloading the new installer.
