Another public sector laptop goes missing
The Press Association has reported yet another UK public sector laptop theft, this time from a hospital in the Midlands. The laptop, containing records of over 5000 patients with a blood disease, disappeared in early January from the outpatients department of Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley, West Midlands. The data included medical records, names, addresses and birth dates. Despite a new security system being put in place by the hospital, the laptop was apparently not protected by encryption. The matter is in the hands of the Police and affected individuals have been notified. The hospital was unable to respond to heise online's enquiry about current laptop security provisions.
