Agnitum has released Outpost Firewall Pro 2008 and Outpost Security Suite 2008, which now also run on Windows Vista and go easier on a PC's resources. The desktop firewall products have been completely reprogrammed for Windows Vista according to the vendor. To filter network traffic, this version of Outpost is likely to use the new Microsoft Windows Filtering Platform API.

The developers say they have also redesigned the appearance of their software to match the visuals of Vista and have done some optimizations to speed up their software. Another innovation in the software is a message service that provides users with security advisories. Otherwise, Agnitum says it has mainly tweaked a few extant functions.

Outpost Firewall Pro 2008 contains a personal firewall, an anti-spyware module, a Web filter, and better support for user switching. It also reportedly protects users from rootkits. The software costs 40 euros including updates and support for two years. For 50 euros, Outpost Security Suite 2008 adds an anti-malware engine that is designed to detect and destroy such contaminants as viruses, worms, trojans, and key loggers; the suite also contains an anti-spam component. Both products run on Windows systems from 2000 up to Vista, including the 64-bit versions of these operating systems. Users with still valid licenses for the previous version can use it with the current version, which is available for downloading at the vendor's website.
