Aaron Barr, HBGary Federal CEO, resigns
The CEO of HBGary Federal, Aaron Barr, has stated that he is resigning his position. In a telephone interview with Threatpost, Barr said that “I need to focus on taking care of my family and rebuilding my reputation ... It's been a challenge to do that and run a company. And, given that I've been the focus of much of bad press, I hope that, by leaving, HBGary and HBGary Federal can get away from some of that. I'm confident they'll be able to weather this storm."
Barr's recent problems started after he boasted to the Financial Times that he had infiltrated Anonymous, the movement behind Operation Payback, and uncovered the identity of leading figures within the organisation. He did not get a chance to publish the prepared blog posting and press release before anonymous broke into HBGary's IT system and published HBGary's email archive and other information.
The whole situation has clearly proved highly embarrassing to Barr and his associates. They withdrew from the recent RSA conference, and the HBGary Federal web site is currently off-line.
