It's not true that "all the major anti-malware software providers
have had protection against Conficker in place since November 2008"
since Conficker B didn't arrive until late December, and certainly in
the case of Symantec, protection was not in place for this variant
until it was already widespread. However, there is no excuse for
machines still being unprotected.
