I just recently blogged about this topic

nux-safe/) and what Linux admins can do to better protect themselves
against attack. This attack also demonstrates the importance of
running a firewall that is external to your operating system,
blocking all unexpected ports from reaching your Linux servers.
Listening on port 8080 doesn't matter if the packets can't get there.
