Frequently asked questions
Installation
# After installing the Guardian under Vista, the compatibility wizard issues a warning that the program may not have been installed correctly.
You can ignore this message. Choose the option "This program installed correctly".
# I'd like to use the SSL Guardian but want to disable downloading the CRLs. Is this possible?
No. You can only de-register the respective DLL by calling the setup program using the -nocrl parameter. As the possible side effects of this are unknown we do not recommend doing this.
During operation
# When I try to register a certificate the program returns "Error 12029".
Your network uses a proxy which was not recognised correctly. In Windows XP, enter the following line at "Start/Run": proxycfg -u. In Vista, netsh winhttp proxy impor does the trick. During installation, the option for importing the IE proxy settings takes care of this.
# Will the SSL Guardian really notify me about each and every weak certificate?
The SSL Guardian does not become active when Windows complains about a certificate anyway, for example because it was not signed by a trustworthy certification authority. As a consequence, Windows will not check any revocation lists, and the SSL Guardian - which is registered as a revocation provider - will not be called.
