Ash entdeckt ein Tonband, und als er die darauf aufgezeichneten Passagen und Formeln aus dem berüchtigten "Buch des Todes" abspielt, beschwört er unwissentlich die Mächte des Bösen. Linda fällt diesen als erstes zum Opfer, und Ash kann sich nicht wehren - er wird von ihnen besessen. Als Annie, die Tochter des Archäologen, zur Berghütte zurückkehrt, um die Forschungsarbeit ihres Vaters fortzusetzen, trifft sie dort auf Ash, der sie in Gestalt eines Dämons heftig attackiert. Annie gelingt es schließlich, ihn in den Keller zu sperren. Doch dort wartet bereits ein anderer, gefangen gehaltener Dämon auf ihn und ein unerbittlicher Kampf gegen die Höllenmächte nimmt seinen Lauf...
