qooxdoo 1.2 JavaScript framework released

qooxdoo logo The qooxdoo developers have issued version 1.2 and version 1.1.1 of their Ajax GUI framework. qooxdoo, pronounced ['ku:ksdu:], uses JavaScript and offers almost everything needed for creating web applications with a desktop-like user interface. According to the developers, HTML, CSS or DOM knowledge is not required. The framework runs in all major browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Chrome, regardless of platform.

The latest 1.2 release of qooxdoo features the addition of a new virtual list that takes advantage of qooxdoo’s data binding layer and can handle a very large number of items and a Selenium window in the cross-browser Inspector aimed at aiding developers create automated GUI tests for applications. Other changes include the ability to open distinct tabs for any class or package description in the API Viewer and more than 200 bug fixes. The developers also note that the entire manual is now available in SVN – delivered as part of the SDK as HTML. It is also available as a 400 page PDF documentPDF.

Version 1.1.1 of qooxdoo is a bug-fix release for qooxdoo 1.1 from late-April of this year and contains no new features. It addresses nearly 90 issues, including various bugs affecting the framework core and the GUI toolkit UI core and data binding. The 1.1.x branch maintenance update is intended for users that aren't yet ready to upgrade to qooxdoo 1.2.

The framework has primarily been developed by employees from 1&1 web hosting company in Germany. qooxdoo is available under a dual licence, allowing users to choose either the LGPL (Lesser General Public License) or the EPL (Eclipse Public License) depending on project requirements.
