phpMyAdmin The phpMyAdmin development team has announced the arrival of version 3.4.0 of phpMyAdmin, a major update to its database administration tool. In a post on his blog, phpMyAdmin developer and project maintainer Michal Čihař says that the latest release is a "huge step", noting that it introduces a lot of new features.

Version 3.4.0 features the addition of a simplified interface for export/import, a visual query builder and a ENUM/SET editor. Several parts of phpMyAdmin have also been updated to make use of AJAX technologies. Other changes include updates to the user preferences and charts, support for relation schema export to multiple formats and a new default theme.

According to Čihař, the 3.4.0 release "fixed largest number of feature requests and bugs ever" – more than 160 in total. He also said that a number of the new features came from work done during last year's Google Summer of Code (GSoC) event. With the release, the master branch is now open to development and the team will begin merging patches that have accumulated in the patch tracker for addition after the freeze.

Further information about the major update, including a full list of changes, can be found in the official release announcement and in the release notes. Version 3.4.0 of phpMyAdmin is available to download from the project's site. Hosted on SourceForge, phpMyAdmin is made available under version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2).
