The developers of the openThinClient project have released version 1.0 of their thin-client suite. It consists of a platform-neutral server written in Java, a management console and the openThinClient OS, a Linux distribution aimed specifically at thin clients.

The main innovation is Smart Card support, which allows openThinClient to be used by tax advisors. Rdesktop and ICA protocols provide connections to the server. In addition to the regular network boot via PXE, version 1.0 and above of the opentThinClient software suite offers a local booting option with central configuration and updates. This enables an additional server-independent start-up.

More details about the release can be found in the official release announcement. Version 1.0 of openThinClient is available to download from the project's site. The core code of openThinClient is licenced under the GPLv2.
