openSUSE Project appoints new Board Chair

Alan Clark is the new openSUSE Board Chairman.
Source: news.opensuse.org The openSUSE Project has announced that Alan Clark has been appointed to the position of openSUSE Board Chairperson. While openSUSE Board members are appointed by the community, under the election rules, the chairperson is appointed by Novell.

A driving force behind the creation of the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), Clark is currently the chair of the Linux Foundation Vendor Advisory Council. He has previously served on the Linux Foundation board of directors where he held several board positions, including Secretary, Board Governance and Nomination committee chair, and a position on the Compensation and Finance committees. Clark has also served as a founding director for a number of non-profit organisations, including blade.org and power.org.

Discussing the announcement, Clark said "I am honoured and thrilled to continue my involvement in the vibrant openSUSE community as Board chair," adding that, "I look forward to working closely with the community to further its mission of not only creating the best Linux distribution in the world, but also actively engaging with the broader open source communities around the world."

The openSUSE Linux distribution is sponsored by Novell, which was recently acquired by the Attachmate Corporation.
