The openSUSE project has released the first development milestone for the next release, version 12.3 of their Linux distribution. The developers point out that the schedule for the final release has not been confirmed yet and will likely be decided at their upcoming developer conference in Prague at the end of this month.

The release includes updates to all major parts of the distribution, incorporating version 3.6.0-rc7 of the Linux kernel, KDE 4.9.1, version 1.13 of the X server from X.org, and updated drivers for many types of graphics cards. Furthermore, the milestone includes updated versions of Qt, Glibc, OpenJDK, zsh and several desktop applications. The new Source Code Pro font from Adobe is also included.

openSUSE 12.3 Milestone 0 can be downloaded for 32- and 64-bit systems from the distribution's web site; however, the developers point out that this release constitutes a very early development snapshot and should only be used for testing purposes. The current stable version is openSUSE 12.2 which was released at the beginning of September.
