openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 5 released
Originally scheduled for the 16th of December, the openSUSE project has announced the release of the fifth milestone for version 11.4 of the openSUSE Linux distribution. This latest development preview is one of six planned milestone releases for openSUSE 11.4, the next of which is planned for the 20th of January. Milestone 6 will be followed by two release candidates. The final version of openSUSE 11.4 is due in March of 2011.
The fifth milestone of openSUSE 11.4 is based on the 2.6.37rc5 Linux kernel and features the KDE SC 4.6 beta, as well as GNOME 2.32.1 – the developers plan to include 2.32.2 in the final version. Package updates include the latest KOffice 2.3 RC release, the latest version of the Pidgin IM client and a release candidate for version 2.4 of GnuCash – the final version of GnuCash 2.4 has only just been released. The OpenOffice.org office suite has been replaced with the LibreOffice community fork.
As the development release is aimed at developers, testers and community members, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.
More details about the release can be found in the official release announcement. The fifth milestone for openSUSE 11.4 is available to download for 32 and 64-bit systems as a DVD or LiveCD image from the project's developer / get it section. The latest stable version is openSUSE 11.3 from mid-July.
