openSUSE Logo Originally expected for the 25th of November, the openSUSE project has announced the arrival of the fourth milestone for version 11.4 of the openSUSE Linux distribution. This development preview is the fourth of six planned milestone releases for openSUSE, the next of which is planned for the 16th of December, and will be followed by two release candidates. The final version of openSUSE 11.4 is scheduled for March of 2011.

The latest milestone is based on the 2.6.37rc3 Linux kernel and features the GNOME 2.32 desktop environment, as well as KDE SC 4.6 Beta 1. The next version of openSUSE will replace the OpenOffice.org office suite with the LibreOffice community fork. Package updates include Qt 4.7.1 and Qt Creator 2.1 Beta 2, version 2.4 of MonoDevelop and version 0.8.8 of the open source Gnash Flash Player.

As the development release is aimed at developers, testers and community members, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.

Further information on the milestone release can be found in the official release announcement. The fourth milestone for openSUSE 11.4 is available to download for 32 and 64-bit x86 systems as a DVD or LiveCD image from the projects developer / get it section. The latest stable release is openSUSE 11.3 from mid-July.
