The openSUSE Project developers have announced the release of the third milestone in the development of openSUSE 11.2, code named Fichte. The third milestone is one of a series leading up to the final version which is expected to be available in November and includes several major changes and updates since the release of the second milestone from late May.

The milestone release includes the 2.6.30 Linux kernel and updated desktop choices of version 2.27.2 of GNOME and version 4.3 beta 2 of KDE. The distribution includes Pulse audio 0.9.15 and Konversation 1.2 Alpha 3. VirtualBox, the open source desktop virtualisation application for x86 hardware, has been updated to the current 2.2.4 stable release and Wine, the open source Windows API implementation, has been updated to version 1.1.23. The third milestone also includes OpenOffice 3.1.1 Alpha and version 2.1.1 of the Amarok audio player for KDE.

More details about the release can be found in the change log and an overview of the planned features for the final openSUSE 11.2 release can be found on the distributions own feature-tracking system, called OpenFate. openSUSE 11.2 Milestone 3 is available to download for 32 and 64 bit x86 systems as a DVD or LiveCD image.
