Marcus Meissner, the teamleader of the SUSE Security Team, has announced that the 31st of October, 2009 will be the end-of-life (EOL) date for openSUSE 10.3. Originally released in October of 2007, the 10.3 release of openSUSE featured the 2.6.22 Linux kernel and included KDE 3.5.7, GNOME 2.20 and OpenOffice.org 2.3. After the 31st of October, no new updates, including security updates and critical fixes, will be available for openSUSE 10.3 and the distribution directory, followed by the update tree, on their server download.opensuse.org will be removed.

The developers advise all openSUSE 10.3 users to upgrade to openSUSE 11 to continue receiving updates. openSUSE 11.0 will continue to be supported until the 30th of June, 2010. The upcoming 11.2 release of openSUSE, code named Fichte, is currently in development and is expected to be available in November this year.
