John Resig, creator of the jQuery JavaScript library, has announced that he is leaving his role as JavaScript evangelist at Mozilla. Resig says the past year and a half at Mozilla has allowed him to work on jQuery full time which has resulted in "a drastically improved jQuery organisation" which is now under the Software Freedom Conservancy and is operating in a more predictable, transparent and smooth running manner. Resig feels that this will let him scale back his involvement and take on new development challenges.

Those challenges will come at the not-for-profit online education organisation, Khan Academy, where he will work full time leading their open source efforts and JavaScript development. Resig says that learning and teaching others "has been a life-long passion for me" and, at the Academy, he can promote education, create better tools for teaching and get more people involved in open source. He will start his work rewriting the Kahn Academy's framework for creating problem sets and developing an initial version as an iPad application. Resig will continue working on jQuery and speaking at conferences (though he will not be taking any new speaking engagements).
