jCryption 1.0 released

jCryption logo jCryption 1.0 is a new JavaScript library which allows developers to encrypt HTML form data without using SSL. The library is built on the Multiple Precision library and the Barrett modular reduction library, from RSA in JavaScript, and the jQuery library. It has been built to help stop developers sending form data as plain text over the internet where they may not have access to SSL to secure the connection. The library works in conjunction with a PHP script on the server side to provide keys and decrypt incoming forms.

The developers say that jCryption is no replacement for SSL due to its lack of authentication, but that it could help provide a "base level of security" to applications where SSL is unavailable. The library has been tested on Internet Explorer 6 and later, Firefox 3 and later, Safari 3, Opera 9 and Google Chrome. It has been dual licensed under the MIT and GPL licenses and is available to download from the jcryption.org web site.
