eXo has announced xCMIS , an open source implementation of the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification. xCMIS is, according to eXo, fully compliant with the latest CMIS specification (CMIS 1.0 - cd06) and supports eXo's Java standards based content repository. The server works with third-party CMIS clients such as IBM's CMIS Firefox Connector, but eXo has also included a new CMIS client, based on Google's Web Toolkit (GWT).

The CMIS client can be used as a standalone web application or embedded into a portal as a gadget. To demonstrate the functionality of the client, the site hosts an example site based on eXo's open source GateIn portal. The LGPL licensed source code for xCMIS is available from The current release is a community beta and eXo plan a production ready version when the CMIS 1.0 specification is ratified. It plans to integrate xCMIS with its commercially supported enterprise version of eXo Platform which is based on GateIn.
