credativ joins Linux Foundation

The open source consultancy credativ, has joined the Linux Foundation. The company is based in Germany but expanded into the UK in November 2007. In the UK, they provide support services for all major Linux distributions, along with providing open source project management and training.

Chris Hall, MD of credativ UK, said the company, as well as being the largest independent European Linux services and support consultancy, also employs a large number of the Debian developers. Debian GNU/Linux is one of the specialities of the company and the on staff developers work on Postgresql and OpenOffice. Halls himself is an OpenOffice core committer and in talking with The H, explained how the company has done custom development work for clients and then committed the changes back to the original projects. He pointed to work for the Liberal Democrats involving parts of the Sympa mailing list server, code which was then released back to the project.

The consultancy, which operates out of Rugby in the UK, is keen to promote the development of Debian GNU/Linux within the Foundation. It hopes to bring a first hand European point of view to the Foundation and hopes that membership will benefit not only credativ's Debian client base, but also it's own developers. The company plans to take an active role in the Linux Standards Base work group.
