Zimbra Logo Open source groupware provider Zimbra has announced the arrival of version 2.0 of its Zimbra Desktop client. The new version of the open source, web-based mail and calendaring solution includes significant performance upgrades and introduces a number of new features.

Unlike version 1.0, Zimbra Desktop 2.0 can now aggregate various Social Networking accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter and Digg, into the same user interface and features the addition of read-receipts, email filtering, tabbed compose and mandatory spell check. Further additions include a three-pane reading view, a calendar fish-eye view and shared access to email folders, calendars, address book and briefcase. Support for drag-and-drop file attachment to compose email messages and the ability to embed logos or images within an HTML signature have also been added.

More information about the release, including a full list of changes, can be found in the release notes and in a post on the Zimbra Blog by Andrew Hawthorn. Zimbra Desktop is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux and Installation and Set-up instructions are provided. Users upgrading from a previous version are encouraged to read the upgrade notes.

Zimbra Desktop is licensed under the Zimbra Public End-User License Agreement.
