Zimbra Collaboration Suite 6.0 Beta
The Zimbra developers have announced the release of the first beta of version 6.0 of the Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) Open Source Edition (code-named Guns N' Roses). The groupware solution from Zimbra, a Yahoo owned company since September of 2007, is well known for its included open source components, such as Apache Tomcat, MySQL, OpenLDAP and Postfix. A more detailed description of the system architecture can be found on the Zimbra website.
MySQL has been removed as the logger database in favor of a combination of SQLite and RRD. The Web client has been updated and uses AJAX providing a tabbed view for users and Calendar now includes fisheye view, originally found in Zimbra Desktop. Users interested in trying the graphical user interface (GUI) can try the live online demo.
More details about the release can be found in the release notes. The first beta of version 6.0 of ZCS Open Source Edition is available to download and is released under the Yahoo Public License (YPL). The final version is expected to be released this summer.
