The Zenwalk developers have released version 6.0 of their "Zen computing" Linux distribution. Updates in the release include the 2.6.28.7 Kernel and the recently updated Xfce 4.6 desktop environment, which is the default desktop.

Gnome Office has been replaced with a "lightweight and optimised" version of OpenOffice 3.0.1 that is split into two packages. The base package includes Writer, Calc, Impress and Draw. The "extra" package is available via Netpkg and provides Math, Database and Java support. The Totem video player replaces Mplayer, which is still available to download.

A new simplified installer is included in the release and tuned init scripts, with real time I/O scheduler, shorten the boot time. Suspend and hibernate have also been improved with the Xfce Power Manager. Support for several USB webcams comes from the updated kernel with gspca.

Zenwalk is available as three different editions. The Standard Edition is the complete version, while the Core Edition is the Zenwalk system without X applications. A Live Edition is also available which will run from a CD without the need to install and includes additional system recovery tools and partition tools. More details regarding Zenwalk 6.0 can be found in the release notes.
