Zarafa logo Messaging and collaboration specialist Zarafa is set to unveil a new web meeting plug-in for its groupware product. According to the company, the free plug-in for the Zarafa Collaboration Platform (ZCP) currently supports up to three users, works regardless of each user's email client or platform (Windows, Mac OS X and Linux), and does not require registration.

The plug-in uses the Spreed web conferencing solution from Stuttgart-based struktur AG to provide video, VoIP and live presentation support for Zarafa WebAccess. Spreed CEO Niels Mache said, "The Zarafa plugin for Spreed enables Zarafa groupware users to benefit from online-meetings and instant collaboration," adding that, "The plugin combines calendar and email functionality with online-collaboration."

ZCP is a Linux-based groupware product that offers IMAP/POP3 access, a CalDAV gateway, native MAPI integration with Outlook and its own WebAccess web client. Visually, the WebAccess client is closely based on Outlook 2003 and offers almost all the features found in Outlook Web Access. The community version of the ZCP has almost unrestricted functionality, but limits the number of Outlook clients served to three. A comparison of the editions is available on the company's site.

The company plans to officially announce the new plug-in tomorrow, 2 November. Version 1.0 of the Zarafa Spreed plug-in is available to download from the project's community site and documenation is provided. The online demo of Zarafa WebAccess already includes the plug-in. Like the community edition of ZCP, the plug-in's source code is released under the Affero GPLv3 licence.
