PyPy logo Version 1.9 of PyPy, the "very compliant" Python interpreter with integrated tracing just-in-time (JIT) compiler, has been released by its developers under the code name "Yard Wolf". PyPy is an "almost drop-in replacement for CPython 2.7" and as such, PyPy 1.9 still implements Python 2.7.2. But the release of PyPy 1.9 does see many Windows 32-bit related fixes, an improved CPython extension emulator, and faster sets.

Progress is being made on supporting NumPy, the scientific computing package for Python, thanks to donations which have allowed developers to dedicate more time to working on the software. Py3k (Python 3 support) and Software Transactional Memory support, for which donations have been being raised, are progressing but are not yet ready for an official release.

PyPy 1.9 with JIT compiler is available to download for 32-bit and 64-bit Linux, 64-bit Mac OS X and 32-bit Windows. The download page also has instructions for building from source and building alternate versions of the MIT licensed Python.
